the theme of this roundup is protags who are so so so so so gripless. spoilers for: idol, burning – rin usami, bunny – mona awad, katabasis – rf kuang.

currently reading: checkmate – tan, little eyes - samanta schweblin, two of swords – kj Charles. also i was craving romantasy slop so I started listening to the audiobook of alchemised senlinyu during walks but it is not a good book so when I ran out of spotify listening hours for the month I just never picked it up again. so I guess I am still in the market for romantasy slop to smoothen my brain to.

But some part of me was waiting for the pauses between the sounds to get longer and longer, until eventually the sounds stopped altogether. )

getting to the good part

Just a tiny whiny post about writing and struggling with getting to the good part!

I recently tried to put more effort into writing more consistently again, and I also got really excited about a project of mine, a longer fic that will take place over multiple chapters, exploring the progression in the characters' relationship as it develops because of (plot reasons). I figured I'd need to start with, well, the beginning. And that's where the trouble started. The beginning feels so goddamn boring!! I just want to skip straight to the first exciting scene, part of why I made up this whole story in the first place, but I obviously need to set the scene first for it to even have the impact I want.
At first, I just didn't feel comfortable writing the first scene, since it's a fight, and I don't always mind those, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable enough with them to just straight up jump into one as the first scene of the story. After that, I realised I still feel really conflicted about the character dynamics. I didn't need to think so hard about it when it was just a vague thing happening before the real story began, but now that I have to write it out, it feels so strange, maybe a bit ooc, but I'm not really sure how to go about the rest of the story without establishing this first. It's the whole point of why their relationship develops the way it does, but now it just feels... wrong. Argh... (╥﹏╥)

Happy Saturday!

I'm going to be doing a little maintenance today. It will likely cause a tiny interruption of service (specifically for www.dreamwidth.org) on the order of 2-3 minutes while some settings propagate. If you're on a journal page, that should still work throughout!

If it doesn't work, the rollback plan is pretty quick, I'm just toggling a setting on how traffic gets to the site. I'll update this post if something goes wrong, but don't anticipate any interruption to be longer than 10 minutes even in a rollback situation.
